Baby Shower Games and Souvenirs

Baby showers are truly a time for celebration. So before they get a date with the stork, families and friends come together to show their support and love for the couple. There is never a clear history of how baby showers came to be such an endearing tradition. But some records point to the period after the World War II when affluent members of society would shower gifts on a new born infant. Baby showers were normally held after the baby was born and often coincided with baptism. Baby showers are a joyous affair for the whole family.

In the last few decades, baby showers saw a lot of changes in the way these are held. But one thing remained the same and that is the presents brought by well wishers. Traditionally, baby showers were held only to welcome the first born. Hence, the gifts given were more practical and durable to see through to the succeeding children. Because giving birth is a woman’s role in society, women were the only ones invited to baby showers. But in recent years, men and children are being invited to the occasion. Also, these days the party is held a month or two before the due date. It has been observed that after the baby is born, parents are too caught up in their responsibilities, therefore, throwing a party will be the least of their problems.

And what is a party if there are no food and games for guests to enjoy? The baby shower that people knew then is so different now because of these games. Games have become so much a part of the modern day baby shower. Like any other occasion, games held during this event are well-thought of and prepared for. Everyone can join in the fun while the expectant father takes charge. If a game sounds exciting, everyone will be encouraged to participate. There are many baby shower games that you can do.

Get your guests to write down as many names of baby products or items as they can. Make this a group effort so that almost everyone can join in the fun. Put a time limit to make the game more exciting. The rule is to cross out the item name or product that appears on every list, thereby leaving each team with unique gift ideas. The group that is left with more items uncrossed wins the game. Bottle races is another game idea your guests might enjoy. It is played by preparing a few feeding bottles and filling them all with either milk, juice or any beverage. The winner is the person who, in this case, sucks and empties the most number of feeding bottles It is basically a game that mimics how an infant drinks from a bottle or from the mother’s breast.

Whatever game you choose to amuse your guests with, make the prizes something they will look forward to. Interesting baby items that have your expressions of gratitude in a small card is also a good souvenir gift. Baby showers are meant to be fun and memorable, so put in the extra effort to make it an occasion everyone will always want to reminisce.
