Childproofing Your Corporate Home

Whether you are moving into a furnished apartment because you are on an extended business trip, or if you are a grandparent coming to visit a new grandbaby , take a moment to install removable safety features into your furnished apartment before the child has a chance to settle in.  Even taking simple precautions such as relocating harmful cleaning agents and removing them to an unreachable area will go a long way in restoring your peace of mind and helping you to enjoy your stay .

1.) Window guards.  Especially if you are not on the first floor (and really, even if you are) window guards are animportant aspect of child safety .

2.) Outlet covers.  Plastic outlet covers are an excellent way to keep your baby safe, and are easily removable when it is time to vacate your apartment.

3.) Move cleaning supplies out of reach.  Check in the laundry room, in the cupboards, and beneath the sinks for potentially hazardous chemicals and place them up high .

4.) Move any toxic plants out of reach.  While most corporate homes come with a fake plant or two, some also come with authentic plants.  If you’re not sure if a plant is toxic, opt to be safe and move it out of your child’s grasp.

5.) Get down on your hands and knees and try to see your furnished apartment from your child’s view .  Look for potential pitfalls from their viewpoint.

Nothing is more useful than vigilance.  Babyproofing an apartment is useful, but it will only go so far.  You should keep an eye on your baby at all times.  While very few children make it through their baby years without a single scratch or lump, the major accidents don’t happen from a lack of babyproofing but from an overtired and unwatchful parent.
