Designing a Safe Nursery

You are smart to want to know where to find good ideas for designing a nursery  before you actually  visit the mall.  Designing a nursery  is more expensive than you may have ever dreamed  for the simple reason that you are not just re-decorating a room ; you you must equip and childproof  the room.

The plan  should be that the   , when finished , is not only attractive  but cozy and safe .  Can you take care of the job at hand  without stretching your budget to the limit ?  It’s possible, if you are willing to get by  on what you actually need rather than what you might want. This strict adherence to your plan  will save you a lot of money  that could be better used elsewhere .

Learning how to prepare a nursery for baby that is functional  is best done in steps working from the edges of the room  towards the center EXCEPT for one item , buy your nursery bedding before you make poor decisions . Once you have your bedding in hand , you can pick out colors, paint the walls , cover or refinish the floors  and buy the furniture.  As you can see, a lot hinges on that one purchase , so take your time and choose wisely  as what you buy is very important.

NECESSITIES

Decorations  are pretty  but you can manage  without them,  whereas furniture and baby gear  is essential to the function of the baby’s room .  If you blow  all your money on decorations , what are you going to say to your husband  when there’s no money left for the bed?  First, buy your child a place to sleep and see how much of your budget that you have left  before spending money on things that are  not absolutely essential .

Buy a crib , a dresser   and depending on space you might consider a rocking chair , an armoire or lamp table.  If you are working with a large room    and have the money, you may see that a chaise lounge, a sofa or daybed would be convenient .

POSSIBILITIES

As an example , do you need a special table for diaper changes ?  Some experts say they  are a good idea  because may deter busy moms  from performing diaper changes  on a dresser  that has no safety rails.  Never seeing this as a problem , I opted for an armoire  and changed my babies in their crib .  Bending over  was harder on my back, but I needed storage . I would never think it was a wise choice to  sacrifice safety for additional closet space, but my reasoning  was that the baby crib already had safety rails and would be a reasonable alternative for a changing table  for dressing and diapering.  Some moms may be of the opinion  that my decision was a bad one , but I am now on baby number four with no problems .

By this step, your DIY project  is beginning to take shape with all decisions based on your little one’s  safety and comfort.  Depending on how much money you have left , you can now start thinking about entering into the fun part of the project .  Remember to refer to the colors  in that all important inspiration piece  that I recommended and remember our buzz words , safe, comfortable and cute.  Stick to these basic steps  and you and your child  will soon be enjoying the benefits of your hard work  knowing that you made informed  decisions every step along the way.
