Liven Up Your Party With Baby Shower Games

Women attending a baby shower usually include the expectant mother’s relatives, friends and co-workers. It is likely that some of the guests will not have met previously. Party games are a great way to break the ice. There’s never any awkward silence when people are engaged in an amusing activity. Competitions that are a bit silly will help everyone to relax. Here are a few baby shower games that are sure to result in laughter.

How big is the belly?

Bring out a ball of string and a pair of scissors. Instruct your guests to each cut off a length that will fit perfectly around the belly of the expectant mother. The person whose guess is the closest fit wins. Measure Mommy’s belly and all the strings with a tape measure or, for more hilarity, let each guest in turn wrap her string around the bulge.

Don’t say baby

Make a necklace for each guest by hanging five safety pins from a knotted piece of string. As people enter the party, place the necklaces over their heads and explain the rules. Any time they hear someone say the word ‘baby’, they should take a pin from her necklace and add it to their own. The winner is the person with the biggest collection of safety pins at the end of the shower.

Aim for a baby

This game is also known as ‘pin the sperm on the egg’. Make a poster to hang on the wall with an ‘egg’ target. If you’re artistic, you can paint a womb, but a simple circle will do. Cut out ‘sperms’ from white card and put a blob of poster putty on the back of each one. Blindfold your volunteers, spin them around and see if they can get their sperm anywhere near the egg.

What’s that smell?

For this game you’ll need a small pack of disposable diapers and five kinds of chocolate. Buy candy bars that look similar, but have different fillings such as toffee, almond or coconut. Unwrap the bars and nest each one in a numbered diaper. Guests have to try to correctly identify the brands of chocolate without touching or tasting. The laughter really begins when people get out their cameras to photograph the diaper sniffing ladies.

Bottle Contest

Buy as many baby bottles as you have guests. Fill each with the (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) beverage of your choice. Have a contest to see who can drink the contents fastest. Guests are not allowed to open the bottles, but must suck down the liquid in the traditional way

It’s easy to invent your own baby shower games. Just think of games commonly played at parties or celebrations and give them a baby theme. Search for baby trivia on the internet and make up questions for a quiz. Stuff a clear plastic box full of pacifiers and have guests guess have many it contains. Play charades with phrases or titles containing the word ‘baby’. With a little imagination you can find endless ways to keep your guests happy and entertained.
