Try These Fun Wintertime Activities For Children!
For as long as the winter season is, there are seemingly an endless amount of hours that parents need to fill with fun activities for children. With the colder, shorter days, cabin fever can set in and with that, boredom. All it takes is a little creativity to find the best winter activities for children that will make your kids happy – and if you pursue some of them as a family, you’ll even create a few lifelong memories if you’re lucky . Here are just a few ideas:
– Build Frosty The Snowman in your yard. To bring Frosty to life, have your kids gather up old clothes, hats, mittens and smaller objects for his eyes, nose and mouth. If you have kids who tend to bicker during group tasks, you might want to consider letting each build a snowbaby in his or her image.
– Visit the local ice skating rink or pond and make an afternoon out of it, full with hot chocolate afterwards.
– Going Sledding is one of the most fun wintertime activities for children. So find a big hill and have a family race to the bottom! To really make the memory last, don’t forget to take photos.
– Take a nature walk in the woods or snowshoe and see if you can identify different animal tracks through the snow.
– For kids that love arts and crafts, collecting pine cones and leaves from outside and turning them into wreaths and other holiday décor is a great activity.
– Making holiday cards is another great crafting activity. Some kids might like to make the cards with their hands using construction paper and others might want to make a photo project on the computer. Either way, it’s a great way to keep them busy and engaged.
– You can teach kids math and multi-tasking without them even knowing it by cooking together. It’s one of the best wintertime activities for children. An aside: if you have a hard time getting kids to eat healthier foods, have them help in making the meal. They’re much more likely to eat a meal that they helped to prepare. And, of course, kids love to bake sweet treats as well. Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles might also appreciate these as gifts.
– Check out the events calendar at your local library or community center. They may have quilting or crafting classes, story hours and much more.
– Finally, there’s the family game night. From board games to video games, this is one of the best activities for children and families.
