Information For When Your Baby Is Just About To Eat Solid Meals
About age 6 months your baby will be ready to eat solid food. This is when your baby’s mouth has changes and it will now be able to manage swallowing the food. It is also a good time to start feeding your baby solid food when they have reached double birth weight. If you happen to feed your baby solid food prior to this then your baby may have a hard time to digest the food.
Before you start feeding your baby solid food you first need to have many bibs, bowls and spoons that are not breakable, and a food processor.
The very first solid baby food to try is rice cereal, it is low in protein and will not be likly to cause any allergic reaction. Mix the rice with breast milk or with formula and be sure that it is mixed thin, it will be simpler for you baby to swallow. When you baby has gotten used to the rice cereal there are other cereals that you can try, then try mixing it with some vegetables. It is best to try vegetables first because your baby may not want to eat then if you first give your baby sweet fruit.
Make sure to avoid cow’s milk until your baby is one year old. After your baby has had cows milk for a month or more you can add other dairy products. It would be best to gradually get your baby onto solid food, wait at least twenty four hours in between trying any other new food, this will give you some input so if there is an allergic reaction.
Remember that you need to let your baby be in charge. You’ll be informed by your baby whether or not it needs a top up or if they are still hungry.
