What Do You Need For Your Nursery?
If you are expecting your first baby then I bet you are running around at the moment trying to make sure you have everything ready for the birth, right? Well one of the most important areas to have ready is the nursery, I know for the first few nights or weeks you may want your baby in your room in a bassinet, but eventually you will have the baby in their nursery and then they will be spending a significant amount of time in that room from then on.
Here are 3 things I think every nursery should have in it:
Crib: This is obvious really, I mean apart from crying and pooping then the thing you baby will be doing most of is sleeping! So you need to have a really good crib for them, it needs to be high quality so it can withstand all the abuse it is going to get as your baby grows and starts pulling on the bars and jumping up and down in it. The crib needs to be safe too, sometimes a designer can leave little areas where you baby can get their fingers stuck as they are exploring it or something like that, so check reviews online before you buy anything.
In the end though your baby is going to get to the point where he or she can or does climb over the bars and get out, when you get to that point you have a couple of choices. Most people just get a bed straightaway, but another option is to take one of the sides off the crib, now you have a little bed they can get in and out of, yet it helps the transition as they don’t go straight from having bars around them all the time to having none.
Toys/Toy chest: Every baby loves their toys! They are important to the development of your baby too, pushing around toys and/or lifting them up is a fun way for your baby to develop physically, and all the shapes, noises and lights help you baby to develop mentally too. They can be dangerous though, so it is important to get a toy chest along with the toys, and to encourage your baby to put them away as soon as they can, or for you to put them away each night when they are too young to.
Nursing chair: If you get a nursing chair then that is a great place to both feed them (of course) but also to rock them to sleep in, and to read to them and talk to them in. You can have a nursing chair anywhere, but I suggest having it in the nursery because then as your baby falls to sleep after feeding then you can pick them up and put them into the crib so they can get some proper sleep.
