Kids Theme Party Basics

Doing the same old boring parties for your kids can lead to some disappointed little guests. One way to avoid this is to use a theme for your party with theme party invitations. You can go seasonal, base it on your child’s favorite characters, a setting, anything you can imagine. Themed events and parties can also be used for just about any occasion, not just birthdays.

A good theme can really tie your whole party together and setup expectations for guests.  You’ll want to consult with your child to make sure you use a theme that he or she likes and will get excited about.  Here are a few basic ideas to get the old wheels turning:

Children’s Cooking Parties

Cooking with kids is a theme that applies a set framework to a party. This structure is effective with children who are old enough to safely cook, but young enough to enjoy following adult directions: about five to twelve years old. Recipes should also be appropriate for the age of guests. Older and younger kids usually like slightly different things.

Summertime Water Parties

If it’s hot in the summer and you want guests to be active outside, adding water play time is a great alternative. Water parties are an excellent source of planned chaos for hot and tired kids. You also don’t need a pool to pull off a good water party. Slides, sprinklers, squirt guns and balloons are all great for water based fun.

Summertime water parties need to be held outside for obvious reasons. Parks, backyards and other rented facilities can be great locations. Serve sugary snacks and let them go at it (you’ll be amazed at all the smiles).

Carnival Theme

Weather is pretty much a non-issue for these parties. In the fall and winter, games and decorations can be set up indoors. Try to make sure you have great prizes and it’s also a good idea to make sure every guest wins one so no one feels left out or gets teased.
